Wi-Fi has been accessible to the public for many years however most people are naïve to the risks associated with using it. It is a very an important aspect of technology that allows people to connect their personal devices to the internet when they are out in public. People blindly connect their devices that obtain vulnerable personal information to random public networks without considering the risks involved. It is very easy to obtain public Wi-Fi as it is available almost everywhere in the United States in places like shops, restaurants, and cafes. There are many ways hackers can meddle with people;s devices over public wifi networks. Those include man-in-the-middle-attacks, rogue hotspots, session hijacking and packet sniffing. With the growth of technological devices, people must educate themselves on best practices in joining a public network.
Public Wi-Fi is used to connect various types of devices to the internet. Some examples of those are laptops, iPads, and cellphones. People tend to have a plethora of personal information that they store on their devices such as credit card information, passwords, pictures, account numbers and emails. The most secure option is for people to connect to a private Wi-Fi network. If that is not an option then using a Vpn, data, and connecting to secure websites.
